Varlam Shalamov 40 Years Later: the Poet, the Writer, the Witness of the Gulag

The conference "Varlam Šalamov 40 years later: the poet, the writer, the GULAG witness", organized by the University of Milan, the University of Paris La Sorbonne (Eur'Orbem / CNRS), the University of Palermo , the University of Florence and the University of Modena and Reggio and with the patronage of the AIS (Italian Slavist Association), aims to reflect on the new research dedicated to the artistic activity of writer and to open new horizons of studies on Šalamov.
After the greetings of the academic authorities, the first Italian translator of Varlam Šalamov, Sergio Rapetti, will open the meeting.
Each day will be opened by the keynote speech of one of the writer's internationally renowned specialists: Leona Toker, Luba Jurgenson, Franziska Thun-Hohenstein. The works will be divided into seven sessions: Šalamov between literature and history, Šalamov and the literature on Soviet concentration camps, Šalamov in the mirror of translations, Šalamov and the search for a language, the poetics of Šalamov, Šalamov and the other witnesses, Šalamov and the dialogues literary and will bring together specialists from the most authoritative to the youngest from different countries, from Italy to France, Russia and Israel.
